  1. The Brochure above was created by an new 'Adventure' Holiday Company called SAFARI, started By David Northeast and Edwin Brazil. The remit was to take young 18-30 year youngsters on an exiting tours of Morocco in Ford Transit Mini buses. The first three week trip advertised above is for March 28th 1969. Now the Figures that come to mind are 10,000 and 2,500, either £10,000 as spent on the brochure and 2,500 Punters as we called them, booked up or the figures could be the other way round. The mini busses could not cope with the Numbers so a new plan was called for.
An existing Camp site at Asilah on the Atlantic Ocean south of Tangier called 'The Golden Sands' was acquired by Safari and re-named Safari Base Camp.
Punters where transported directly to Algeciras in two coaches where four ex-army Bedford Trucks painted yellow with London Bus seats welded in them so 24 Punters could look forwards and their luggage towed behind them in Trailers.
The Punters had a few days in the Base Camp to get burnt by the sun and enjoy various entertainments before going on their Safaris. There could be over 100 Punters at the camp at one time, being entertained, Briefed then taken on their Safaris, returned to Asilah then driven back to Ceuta.
To prevent the surprise of almost 100 young people turning up at Newhaven docks and wondering when the Mini busses would arrive-Safari Became 'Safari Overland'- a new Brochure was produced still offering the loquacious expectations as the first. Now read the 'Second Brochure' on Bob Friendship's Blog. Mike Harris
